Release Sites & Safe Gardens

We aim to release all of the hedgehogs we care for back into their natural habitat in the wild.

Could you provide a release site? It needs to be somewhere where there are already hedgehogs in the area and can wander freely and you should be willing to provide food and water to encourage hedgehogs to visit.

If you think that you could provide a release site, please complete the application below. If your garden is suitable, we will contact you with further details. We may not be able to respond if your garden is not suitable due to time commitments.

Do you already have hedgehogs visiting your garden?
Are hedgehogs able to wander freely in and out of your garden?
Do you already provide food and water for your hedgehogs?
If not, would you be willing to supplement their natural diet with poultry flavoured cat/kitten biscuits, and water?
Does your garden have trees, hedges, shrubs and undergrowth where hedgehogs would find suitable nesting areas and materials?
Do you have sheds, decking or outbuildings under which hedgehogs may choose to build a nest?
Do you have rough areas/woodland on your property or nearby?
Are rough areas left natural or managed using garden machinery?
Is there any evidence of badgers in the area?
Are there any cattle grids nearby and, if so, do they have inbuilt escape ramps?
Are there any ponds/lakes on your property or nearby?
If so, does the pond/lake have an escape route or ramp in case a hedgehogs falls in?
Is there any evidence of dogs or cats known to dislike wildlife in the area?
