May is a special month for hedgehogs, as it features Hedgehog Awareness Week, which runs from 4th to 10th May 2025. This annual event, organized by the British Hedgehog Preservation Society, aims to raise awareness about the challenges hedgehogs face and how we can help them2.
This year’s theme is “Give hedgehogs the edge!”—encouraging people to make the edges of their gardens and green spaces more hedgehog-friendly. Activities include creating hedgehog highways, leaving wild areas for shelter, and ensuring ponds have escape routes.
